Changes In Dispenser Licensing Act
During last year's session, the 85th Texas Legislature passed HB 4007, which made several changes to the dispenser lciensing act, The Texas Department of Licenisng and regulation is currently in the process of changing the rules applicable to hearing aid diposensers to comply with the Hous bill. FDA Implementation Of Federal
OTC Legislation

Last August, the US Congress paased the Over The Counter Hearing Aid Act which will enable adults with perceived mild-to-moderate hearing loss to accesss OTC hearing aids without being seen by a hearing healthcare professional. The new legislation will require the FDA to create and regulate a category of OTC hearing aids to ensure they meet the same high standards for safety, consumer labeling, and manufacturing protection that all other hearing aids currrently meet. The new legisaltion gives the FDA 3 1/2 yearsto adopt regulations governing this hearing aid category. These new regulations are currently being hotly debated before the FDA by the various state and national organizations representing hearing aid manufacturers, audiologists, and licensed hearing aid dispensers. Alissa Parady, Director of Government Affairs fo the International Hearing Society will provide a detailed update of the status of these negotiation during the annual meeting. THAA Executive Director, Scott Pospisil, will also update members on the association's position and efforts in this proceeding. Don't miss this important presentation that affects your future!
