AboutTexas Hearing Aid Association (THAA) is a not-for-profit professional association—owned and operated by its membership and governed by a Board of Directors elected by the members—that serves the hearing aid specialists licensed by the Texas Department Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), who in turn, serve the hearing impaired of Texas. The purpose of the association is set forth in its mission statement. The THAA offices and staff are located in Austin. The association represents its members before the Texas Legislature and the TDLR Hearing Instrument Fitters and Dispensers Advisory Board, monitors and tracks all legislation and regulatory proposals affecting its members' daily practice, and lobbies both government entities on behalf of its members. Any changes in the licensing act or governing rules are immediately communicated to all THAA members. THAA is also a TDLR-approved provider of continuing education. The association provides 20 hours of continuing education each year. Ten of those hours are offered at the THAA Annual Convention conducted in June, where members can network with other licensees, manufacturers, suppliers, government officials, and other practice owners. Also during the Annual Convention, the association conducts the Trade Show, where manufacturers and suppliers display the latest in products and services available to the profession. THAA also provides a comprehensive communications package to its members through this website, an email newsletter, and special email updates needed to notify members of important industry, legislative, and regulatory news affecting their practice. Each year, the association honors one of its members with the coveted THAA Dispenser of the Year Award. The award is given to the licensed hearing aid specialist who practices the highest standard of ethics when serving the hearing impaired of Texas.
